Body Painting Masterpieces
The Pink Ribbon Calendar Exhibition entitled ‘Body Painting Masterpieces’ features 21 courageous and inspirational women who have faced a diagnosis of breast cancer. Models include well known Kiwi’s such as comedian Jools Topp, fashion designer Liz Mitchell, singer Hinewehi Mohi, actress Katlyn Wong and chef Ann Thorpe.
The exhibition’s life size images, which are currently touring the country, are taken from the 2013 Pink Ribbon Calendar. This collaborative body art project was created by Liz Oliver and Anna Molineux to increase awareness about breast cancer in New Zealand and raise funds for the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation.
Together with a team of NZ’s top body artists, photographers Chris Traill & Sean Dick and graphic artist Lane Worrall, Liz and Anna have created a 2013 calendar that is a stunning work of art.
Before being painted, each model was asked “what is the image that captures the essence of you?” The body artists then worked to translate this imagery and personal message onto their living canvas.
“I am so proud of our beautiful, brave models and incredibly grateful to all the artists who donated their time and talent to the calendar project” says Anna.
Liz was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. “Breast cancer is a detectable disease” she says. “We strongly encourage Kiwi women of all ages to be breast aware, to get regular mammograms and to seek medical advice if they find anything unusual”
” If we can save a life by encouraging Kiwi women to be vigilant, then it will be a remarkable achievement”.
