Sue Richards is an artist based in Rural Matamata. She has a family history of artistic talent dating back 3 generations.
Sue was born in Dannevirke, completing her schooling and enjoying her art through her school years. She moved to Hastings then Wellington for her career in Nursing and married Tony. With their two children, they now farm in the Waikato whilst Sue continues her Nursing in the Operating Theatres in Hamilton.
Within the last 12 years Sue has built up a profile with her artistic talent, now much in demand.
Sue is kept busy with commission and exhibition works in watercolour, silk or acrylic mediums, exhibiting locally and further a field. She also has provided paintings for Save the Children Fund Christmas cards.
Sue prefers to paint realism and loves the character of old tumble down barns, cottages or homesteads. Nature in any form is another of her favourites and the vibrancy of painting on silk seems to bring to life her compositions.
The success of her work is as much about her subject matter as her style. People recognise the subject with a note of familiarity or nostalgia.
“It is important to me to take time each week to focus on doing something Arty and while the journey may take many turns with the clarity of direction not always evident, it is a lifelong and evolving search that I take”.
