Vicki Carruthers, Changing Light
Vicki is drawn to landscapes and land features with strong forms shaped by extremes, and to changes in colour and movement in the sky, on land and in water during the day and across the seasons.
Inspiration is drawn from the Waikato west coast and the mountains and rivers of the South Island.
Her paintings seek to express the inter-connections between land, sea and sky together with the transient qualities provided by the time of day or the season, in an abstract or semi-abstract way.
When sculpting, Vicki allows each stone as taken from the quarry to guide the final form of the sculpture; using the characteristics of each stone to express its qualities from how it was formed.
Vicki has been painting for over 30 years and sculpting hinuera, marble and oamaru stone for 20 years.
As a member of Artnexus (artnexus.co.nz) she exhibited annually from 2001 to 2020, including at the Morrinsville Gallery, ArtsPost Gallery (Hamilton), Sandz Gallery (Hamilton) and Estuary Arts Centre (Orewa).
She has also had three solo exhibitions and has contributed to nine other exhibitions. Her most recent solo exhibition was at ArtsPost in 2018. She was a member of the organising committee for the Inform Sculpture Symposium at the Hamilton Gardens Summer Festival from 2006-2008.
